Egypt has a very large textile and clothing industry that depends mainly on cotton fibers alone or mixed with other natural or synthetic fibers. The cultivated cotton area reached 370,000 acres in 2022, compared to 90,000 acres in 2014. Egypt’s Yarn & Fabrics consumption is expected to increase by 6% annually during the period 2024-2027.
Egypt is setting an ambitious strategy aiming to achieve a significant leap in the production capacity with a target production of 188 thousand tons of yarn yearly compared to 37 thousand tons; 198 million meters of fabric instead of 50 million meters. Cotton Yarn represents 8% of the total textile sector outcome.
Over the past 10 years, Egypt has seen steady growth in production and exports of woven and knitted fabrics, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12 per cent.
